Data Availability Wars Heat Up

Celestia, EigenDA, Avail all fighting for rollup DA. The modular thesis is playing out in real time.

The data availability wars are getting intense. Celestia had first mover advantage but EigenDA is catching up fast with the restaking angle. Avail is carving its own niche. Every rollup has to pick a side now. The pricing dynamics fascinate me. DA layers are essentially selling blockspace but optimized for a specific use case. The competition is driving costs down which benefits everyone building rollups. Celestia's approach is pure and simple. Dedicated chain just for DA, nothing else. The focus shows in the performance. EigenDA leverages existing Ethereum security through restaking which is a different value proposition entirely. What I'm watching closely is how rollups make the decision. Some prioritize cost, some prioritize security assumptions, some want the marketing bump of a specific ecosystem. The criteria vary wildly. Interoperability between DA layers would be interesting. Right now you pick one and stick with it. But what if rollups could switch or use multiple DA layers depending on conditions? That flexibility doesn't exist yet. This competition is healthy for the ecosystem. Innovation happens when there's something to win. The market will probably consolidate around two or three winners.
