NFT Utility Found Its Footing
Beyond JPEGs, NFTs became access passes, identity primitives, and composable game items.
NFT utility survived the bear market and emerged stronger. The JPEG speculation died but real use cases grew quietly. Owning tokens that do things rather than just exist.
Access passes became the obvious first utility. Hold the NFT, access the community, the content, the events. Simple membership mechanics that work. The recurring revenue models forming around this are interesting.
Gaming items with actual interoperability started appearing. Use your character in multiple games. Gear that transfers between virtual worlds. The metaverse promise executing in fragments.
Identity primitives are particularly interesting. NFTs as credentials, achievements, reputation markers. Soulbound tokens for things that shouldn't transfer. On-chain identity building from verified attestations.
The financialization layer matured too. NFT lending against floor prices. Fractionalization for expensive items. Royalty streaming from secondary sales. The DeFi primitives adapted.
What died was pure speculation on art. What survived and grew was NFTs as functional objects in digital systems. Less exciting for traders, more useful for builders.
